Options trading systems can be found all over the web, and for very good reason. I am a firm believer that options trading is the best way to make some extra money every month, replace your income or make you seriously rich.

Whether you are a novice trader or a pro, if you want to trade properly then you will need to have an options trading system. Simply buying an option and hoping for the best is not going to cut it in this world. The Chicago Options Board of Exchange that looks after all things options related states that over 80% of options expire worthless!

That is huge number and so if you want to make a money with options trading then you are going to need to employ a system. What Are Option Trades

However be warned. There are loads of rubbish options trading system out there. When you choose a system you must choose one a system which can answer yes to the following three questions:

1. Does it have a proven track record? Many options trading systems do not prove their results. Anyone can create a winning system on historical data, once they know what the markets have done. So where you see a system which show you pretty charts with arrows on when they entered the trades, you need to make sure that these trades were in fact actually placed and the arrows were not added after they saw the market move!

2. Is it a system which can be fully automated so you don’t need to be at your computer the whole time? A system which does not allow you to live your life (or work at your job!) whilst you are trading is no good. If you have to stare at the screen all the time, then you are not trading an options system, but day trading. A good system should be something which you can trade automatically.

3. Does the system have as few as trades as possible in a month to make the maximum returns? Again if you are making lots of trades in a week or month then commissions are going to kill you and you are day trading. What Are Option Trades

Adjusting Option Trades

The iron condor strategy is the great strategy for option traders looking to profit from the stock market without having to pick direction. Ideally, these option trades perform best in non trending markets, however, they can also be successfully used during trending and more volatile markets as long as the one trading them has the knowledge and the ability to spend the time necessary to properly manage and adjust them.

This is a spread that takes advantage of theta decay in options – the fact that options are a decaying asset and lose value over time. Once an iron condor trade is placed, and expiration day approaches – as long as the ‘sold’ strikes of the position are placed far enough outside of ‘harms way’, these trades can normally expire worthless giving the iron condor trader a substantial return in a very short period of time.

Iron Condors are actually constructed from 2 separate credit spreads – one on either end from where the underlying be used is currently trading at. Positioned above the underlying current trading price is a bear call spread. Positioned below the current trading price is a bull put spread. Depending on the broker being used, these can be placed separately as individual vertical spreads- or together as one iron condor trade. Adjusting Option Trades

The goal of the trade is for the underlying to stay contained within the ‘range’ created by the two sold credit spreads. While the trade is on, the underlying can move around on the chart as long as it stays contained within this ‘range’. It the underyling beings moving around too much, or moves too far in either direction, the trade will become threatened and the trader will need to take some sort of action to manage and/or adjust.

This type of trading strategy provides a very high probability of success – and can be profitable most of the time. However, it is important to note that the risk to reward ratio of these trades are NOT ideal – as one losing month, if not properly managed, can wipe out an entire years worth of gains. Learning how to set correct profit targets, exit and stop loss points, as well as gaining the appropriate knowledge on how to properly manage and adjust an iron condor position that is getting into trouble is vital to long term success with this trade. Adjusting Option Trades

The iron condor strategy is the great strategy for option traders looking to profit from the stock market without having to pick direction. Ideally, these option trades perform best in non trending markets, however, they can also be successfully used during trending and more volatile markets as long as the one trading them has the knowledge and the ability to spend the time necessary to properly manage and adjust them.

This is a spread that takes advantage of theta decay in options – the fact that options are a decaying asset and lose value over time. Once an iron condor trade is placed, and expiration day approaches – as long as the ‘sold’ strikes of the position are placed far enough outside of ‘harms way’, these trades can normally expire worthless giving the iron condor trader a substantial return in a very short period of time.

Iron Condors are actually constructed from 2 separate credit spreads – one on either end from where the underlying be used is currently trading at. Positioned above the underlying current trading price is a bear call spread. Positioned below the current trading price is a bull put spread. Depending on the broker being used, these can be placed separately as individual vertical spreads- or together as one iron condor trade. Adjusting Option Trades

The goal of the trade is for the underlying to stay contained within the ‘range’ created by the two sold credit spreads. While the trade is on, the underlying can move around on the chart as long as it stays contained within this ‘range’. It the underyling beings moving around too much, or moves too far in either direction, the trade will become threatened and the trader will need to take some sort of action to manage and/or adjust.

This type of trading strategy provides a very high probability of success – and can be profitable most of the time. However, it is important to note that the risk to reward ratio of these trades are NOT ideal – as one losing month, if not properly managed, can wipe out an entire years worth of gains. Learning how to set correct profit targets, exit and stop loss points, as well as gaining the appropriate knowledge on how to properly manage and adjust an iron condor position that is getting into trouble is vital to long term success with this trade. The world’s most heavily traded derivatives are not available in the United States or Europe. It’s the Korea Composite Stock Price Index 200 index options. Index Option Trading Hours

Trading the financial markets has become a common obsession in Korea (South, not North). Ordinary people in Korea trading the KOSPI 200 options have made the Korea Exchange (KRX) the third most heavily traded derivatives exchange in the world.

It’s behind only the CME Group (includes both the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade) and Eurex.

However, it’s not just the Korean appetite for risk that makes the that one index option so popular. They outsell the KOSPI 200 futures by forty-six to one. And from 2003 to 2008 the index option monthly trading volume increased from 5.6 million contracts to 183 million. Their trading symbol is K200.

These index options are relatively small, making them accessible to many people. A contract size is KRW 500,000 (currently 2) times the index price. For perspective, that’s about one-fifteenth as large as an options or futures contract on Japan’s Nikkei 225.

The actual underlying index is two hundred of the largest companies on the entire KOSPI index, which is the companies listed on the Korean stock exchange, comparable to the U.S. S&P 500.

The tick size is 0.05 point valued at KRW 25,000. Trading hours are 9:00AM to 3:15PM Monday through Friday Korean time, which is fourteen hours ahead of New York City Eastern Standard Time.

The last trading day for these contracts is the second Thursday of the contract month. On that day, trading hours close at 2:50PM. The next day is the final settlement day. Index Option Trading Hours

Contract months are March, June, September and December. You are limited to taking a position of more than 7,500 contracts. The initial margin is KRW 16,830.750 (currently .568). Commissions vary, but are low because there’s a lot of competition between brokers.

Of course, Koreans form the major market for these index options. Their television shows many educations programs on technical analysis and other stock and options trading strategies.

But foreigners are joining the index options game in Korea. In 1999 they financed just 2% of options and futures transactions. Now, according to the Korea Exchange, it’s as high as 25%.

Trading index options may not be the most common reason to hop on a plane to visit Seoul Korea, but maybe it’s more common than we think (be warned, however — plane flights to the Far East average twelve hours or more in length.).

Want to join in? During October 2008, KRX and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange signed a contract listing KOSPI 200 futures contracts on the CME’s Globex platform. The CME will match trades, but the KRX continues to clear and settle the trades.
